Instructional Models in Recent Decades

Since the 1940’s publications of Instructional Design Models (IDMs) have evolved to include more visual dynamics due to the turn of the 21st Century technological advancements. Robert Gagne’s work of the 1960’s led to many other models that cling to differentiated learning and connections to memory research. Key components of ADDIE evolve with linear and cyclical IDMs in which theorists and researchers add further steps to include details and differentiation recognition. With many great ideas, overload can occur which depletes recall. Knowing when to add to lessons and when to resist giving too much information at one time is critical in design instruction. 'Back to the Basics' has been the target of my philosophy in developing a strong foundation of learning in curriculum and design. Then adding enough of the 'special effects' to spark passion and engrain strong memory links is vital. Kemp’s models of design still hold true for me and John Medina's brain research has many compatible ideas that relate to these instructional design models as described in this paper.
Design is the process of specifying conditions for learning.

Designing to meet instructional challenges needs to utilize problems that have been analyzed and defined. The world is waiting our next generations, we need to prepare them to make a lasting impact on the world.
I feel that every child should strengthen their unique attributes while learning to create a passion that will lead them to make an amazing impact on the near future and for years to come.

Education is full of design. In this portfolio the design of instruction will support the ability of the learner to obtain strategies that fill their needs. While teaching my students and attending Northwest Christian Universities Graduate Studies Program in Education, I created a video to bridge skills of my students and their families. With these they can develop new strategies to strengthen their literacy practices and implement the 'Reading for a Purpose' ideology. The goal in doing this was to leave them with the visual recollection of how to correlate the techniques we use in the classrooms to the activities they participate in outside of school. Hopefully, they will all see more opportunities in which to participate in reading practices that link students to more successful interactions among each other. This in turn will stimulate comprehension abilities in students. Using sound principles in design make the time spent teaching most valuable.

Multi-Media Production Plan
![Picture](/uploads/1/3/7/8/13780907/1375921530.jpg)
This multi-media plan was designed to develop a multi-media production through a progression of units in EDUC 630. This was a challenging assignment since I was learning many new technological applications; at the same time in creating this video that is nearly ten minutes long. Making the plan itself was also a new experience since I had zero prior experience in writing scripts and storyboards. Many skills and insights were gained while completing this project. A new appreciation was gained from the clear instruction and chunking the plan into workable segments. Professor Michael Kaelin was an inspiration to me as a student and a teacher. This project with help guide me in the future with my own endeavors.

Instructional Design Plan

EDUC 580 - Curriculum Design and Instructional Methods. My Instructional Design Plan identifies the instructional problem that presents a need to improve reading comprehension skills among third grade students. The instructional aim includes organizing a triad of support for students that include school staff members, students, and parents working together in order to inspire students to increase their fluency and comprehension by creating desires and abilities to Read for a Purpose.
This plan outlines the methods needed to accomplish this task and uses Kirkpatrick's four levels of evaluation measures and how they relate to this plan. First the instructional goals are identified. The audiences’ characteristics are clearly stated, contextual and task analyses are organized, and the instructional objectives and presentation strategies are outlined. Three Mager Style Objectives are stated. Pre-instructional and sequencing strategies are explored. Then the designing and developing of instructional material described, content presentation is explained, and learner practice activities lead to feedback and guidance supports and links. The implementation of this instructional plan verifies components in which CLER model (Configurations, Linkages, Environment, and Resources) is used to facilitate the diffusion and adoption of this project.
Lastly, the evaluation plan includes three components: formative assessments, summative assessments, and confirmative evaluation to regulate the learned material are outlined. Planning and project management includes identifying key personnel, notable milestones and deliverables, scheduling, and needed budget to viably utilize this
plan.
