Welcome to my Instructional Design Portfolio.
Integrating Educational Curriculum and Instructional Technology to optimize learning experiences using sound design principles and researched based strategies align with my vision. This portfolio highlights my professional goals to design and implement instructional materials effectively. These pages show my development through the Masters of Education program at Northwestern Christian University using technology to aid in student learning.
This portfolio contains implementation of educational curriculum and instructional applications utilizing technology targeting primary level students. The goals of these applications are designed to support learners who can thrive successfully in the 21st Century. The common theme and Action Research is based on improving reading comprehension for all learners and concentrates on supporting individual needs. These pages were developed during my studies and research. The focus of this work is to meet the needs of students that are continually evolving in education. Throughout this year, I have learned many things to improve my teaching style and performance.
It has been a full year, at times all consuming, spent learning and teaching. It has been a productive experience due to the incredible dedication of my husband and the understanding of our three children. They sacrificed and graciously supported my commitment to accomplish this in one year. It is important to keep stress levels lower by getting plenty of exercise and sleep; along with obtaining positive input which can make tremendous impact on a successful outcome. At times some of those areas were jeopardized, and this required rereading and revision of material to achieve mastery. As I acquired new perspectives through the course work in this program, it enabled inclusion of current brain research findings that benefit learning outcomes. This was greatly impacted by studying John Medina 's findings Brain Rules (2008). Another book ,Turning Point by Malcolm Gladwell (2000, 2002) was presented in our coursework. It was inspirational and enlightening for business and educational success. The facilitators and instructors presented useful and applicable information that lead to the samples included in this portfolio. Their compassionate input is truly appreciated.
The contents of my portfolio include the following Instructional Technology Domains: Development, Design, Utilization, Management, and Evaluation. These components validate the essential parts of my education, experiences, and professional research and development. The requirements of this Masters program of Education through NCU was an amazing opportunity that will enhance my teaching techniques.
From the beginning, my teaching experiences have been unique. It was a fortunate opportunity in my career in teaching middle school (6th, 7th, and 8th grades) in multiple subject areas. This lasted for an extended period of time in several schools. There were requests, both voluntary and involuntary transfers, that provided various opportunities and experiences. In the latter part of my career concentration in the elementary grade levels (K-5) gave way to incorporating new technology integration. This resulted in tremendous insight about what each grade level teacher expects from students at the beginning of the school year, with an aim line that respects current standards. By continuing to set goals accurately, my intention is to prepare students successfully with the ability to meet and exceed state standards. Because of my broad experiences, I can appreciate the intensity of expectations set for students and teachers at every level in K-8th grades. Each grade level demands great respect.
The focus of my professional development over the past decades has been on embracing and incorporating technology to enhance differentiated learning styles. The essence of this portfolio promotes the need of sound instructional practices using research based curriculum. Implementation of current technology should be included to ensure life-long success for learners. District, state, and federal mandates over the past twenty four years make up my foundation in education. This accumulation of work includes perspective from an in-depth background of my highlighted competencies. Please contact me by email, if I can clarify any portion of this portfolio contents.
