UTILIZATION
Essentially, utilization requires implementing technology in the instruction process to enhance student learning. It includes establishing ideas, developing plans, and implementing research based ideology. EDUC 507, EDUC 510, and EDUC 560 all delivered sound principles that substantiated our views through research and development of curriculum design. This utilized a solid foundation of principles used in current business and educational practices.

Team Effort by Messman and Orme
Collaboration in Problem Solving using six step strategy process in EDUC 510, an insightful colleague and I solved a problem issued to us using online methods. Adding Skype to our problem solving strategies would be the next added multi-media means for optimal communication forms. The methods we implemented worked well to solve the task before us, inspired our desires to created more open ended and active learning possibilities in our lessons. Our instructor Michael Kaelin, encouraged us to put forth our best efforts to expanding on the basic problem presented. Our colleagues came up with quite a wonderful array of solutions to the same problems. It was most beneficial to feel the creation of lessons through the role of students. As research has proven, letting students teach peer learners is a means by which rich comprehension develops. This was one of those opportunities and experiences. The best part of reviewing this lesson was the reassurance success is not measured by perfection, but in the quality of effort put forth.

As I researched the standardized testing measures used in recent decades in Oregon, many familiar scenarios are identified. Oregon has used a variety of student assessments to ensure what students are taught and how they master the content presented. Many summative assessments that have been mandated to ensure student achievement is verified serving public school students. These mandates have been set to ensure the best education is being delivered by educators from the data collected. The question is addressed about whether summative assessment is driving instruction or if instruction is being driven by content curriculum and instruction. This paper covers decades of standardized testing. This research paper begins review of assessments in the 1960's to the present educational reform measures.

Action Research Plan

The plan for the action research project was required of each student in the M. Ed. program at NCU. In EDUC 507, the Fall of 2012 began my Action Research Plan. My Action Research concentrated on Reading Comprehension interventions that were supported with technology applications. The targeted students were struggling with standard comprehension assessments and meeting benchmark goals. Students were able to express their comprehension achievement using technology enhanced methods in small group settings, as well as individually, by using strategic and intensive interventions. The research was implemented during Spring Term of 2013. The findings of the research has been consolidated for the Capstone Video Presentation in the Summer of 2013.

Comprehension Needs Reading for a Purpose

Abstract
Reading is the core focus of all academics and continues to be, even in this incredible era of the 21st Century in which our global society is infused with technology. Our world has reached amazing literacy rates. As this has occurred, higher academic standards are sought by leading countries. In the United States, increasing reading comprehension has been a focal point of much research by private and public entities. World correlations show U.S. student reading achievement has fallen in the last decade. This depiction is often because of skewed factors used creating inadequate analysis to some degree. Dale Henry, Ph.D., in NCU V-camp video Attend lectures (2013), in the native Learning Strategies course. He brings up points stating that the educational reform NCLB has required that all of our students (even including those identified extreme learning disabilities) be assessed in the statistical ratings. Other nations only assess a portion of their student population.
For the past five decades much research and adopted trends have framed the methods used in teaching reading in elementary schools. These have changed as the pendulum of educational mandates have changed. Schools have adopted the ‘newest’ and ‘best’ practices that are often politically influenced and/or financially infused into our public school systems.
What remains constant is that we are educating elementary students from kindergarten through fifth grade needing to provide them with the tools and strategies that will empower them for a life-time. We are often falling short of that. We are creating the foundation for every aspect of our society. Since the core subject of reading is integrated in all other subjects, our language arts skills are fundamentally necessary. Each student is valuable! o limitation should impede a student's ability to make marked gains in their future goals.
